  • Tail Light Problem

I was riding in the rain this weekend and ended up in a minor altercation with the side of a cliff. I ended up with a broken hand, which will luckily heal itself. The bike suffered only minor abrasions to the case guards and a lost left side panel.

My problem is that my tail light no longer works. I changed the bulb, to no avail. The brake light works fine, but the tail light doesn't work at all. Any ideas where I should start looking? Any parts of the electrical system that would be damaged by a substantial, but relatively minor percussion? All of the rest of the electrics are working fine. Any advice offered is greatly appreciated.

    Ride safely.

    Hey there Ted,

Well, the tail light is on a separate wire vs. the Brake Light. and they run along the fender and under the seat. It has a bullet type connector, and it could be as simple as having been pulled apart!? Take your seat off and trace the wires from the light towards the wire harness and battery. If it's still connected, is your headlight and gauge lights working? If not, then check your fuses in the side panel.

Write back with more info if this doesn't find it! T.C.

      Fixed it!

Sure enough, the plug closest to the tail light was just loose enough so that the brake light worked, but the tail light didn't. I thought that my "oil/brake/tail" light would have lit up, but it didn't.

Thanks for the advice. I guess the best advice is to always start with the obvious/easy fixes.

Wish I had an easy fix for my broken hand. Hurts like heck.
