    Standard gas cap

    Does anyone have an extra standard gas cap & trim ring they would like to sell?? I finally found a tank on Ebay for SWMBO's F, but I lost the auction for the cap. I need the lock cylinder also, but the key isn't necessary...I don't have a problem taking it to a locksmith and having a key made. Thanx!

    Tom,

    Save this link and keep an eye on it until you spot a set;

    Every now and then somebody will list a matching set pf cap & locks.

    Also you might try PowerSportsPro out of Omaha, NE (Partsfish);

      Already one step ahead of you...I check Ebay for XS1100, XS 1100, XS11, etc., nearly everyday...have been doing that for years. Wouldn't have anything running around here without it!!

        Your right, that's about the only way to get parts for these old bikes anymore. Before ebay I had a list of salvage yards I'd call on to buy parts sight unseen. Sometimes you'd get fine stuff, and sometimes you got trash.

          I just found out from an XS850 guy about a boneyard I didn't even know about in Ottawa, only about 20 miles from me, that's supposed to have some things. I'm going to have to make a run sometime and check them out.

            I have an ols 78 E tank that has a good cap, but no petcocks, and the tank it self is ruseted out, but yoy can have the whole thing for the price of shipping. I cn get 75% off at FedEx, so it shouldn't be too expensive. Let me know if you are interested.

              Let me say this again, only this time without so many typos
              I have an old 78 E tank, with cap (no key), but no petcocks and the tank is rusted out on the bottom. It's yours for the cost of shipping. I get a 75% discount at Fed Ex, so shipping shouldn't be too expensive. Let me know if you are interested.

                  cap good...lock bad...

                  John sent me a cap and trim ring (THANKS!!!) that I received this week, literally cut out of an old tank that had rusted through on the bottom. I took the cap to a locksmith yesterday to get a key cut, and it turns out that the lock had been previously jimmied and the guts were ruined.

                  I was able to cut away just enough to pop the lock with a screwdriver and salvage the cap and trim ring, which are now on the new tank, but I still need a working lock cylinder. Without key doesn't matter, I'll just have one made. With key would be incredible, but not necessary. I do have my eye on an Ebay auction for a matching lock set...

                    Sorry 'bout the cylinder being messed up. I had no idea, as I never had a key, and never attempted to open it. You should have seen the inside of this tank...yuck! It had been Kreemed before and the coating was peeling off all inside the tank. It truly was junk.
