  • Pilot Jets.. Are they interchangeable?

I have carbs from an '80 and '79 xs11 sf. When I opened mya 79 carb's float bowl then unscrewed the top screw to the pilot jet... I didn't pay attention when sticking my screwdriver into the hole where the pilot jet was and the pilot jet screw stripped a little. I'm just worried that if I put it back in there... i won't ever be able to get it back out in case I have a problem. I hope I'm using the right term... I'm not talking about the idle mixture screws... but the little jets that have a passageway that is almost microscopic.

Are these interchangeable with the ones in the '80? I wanted to replace one of them.

Yes, they're interchangeable, meaning they will physically fit in either carb, But, IIRC, there was a size (orifice) difference between the 79 and 80. Check the number stamped on the jet, and if it's the same, the go ahead and use them.

      Hey Jon,

According to the Clymers, all of the pilot jets for the XS's are the same at 42.5! So....you should be able to swap them!
