1980 XS1100 model ?

Can anyone tell me what the
model is on my 1980 XS1100
midnight special. The repair
manual shows 7 models from
78-81. They are E,F,SF,G,SG,
H,SH. Also found mention of
a model LG & LH. Did Yamaha
make 9 models of the XS1100
from 78-81 ?

Hey there BBlam,

Your 80 Midnight Special is the LG. The letters run with the years:
78E; 79F; 80G; 81H, and the "S's" are the Specials, but the "L's" are the midnights, don't know why they used "L"!?

So, if you count the MN's, then I guess they did make 9 models, and that was just the US, there are other variations for Canada and Europe/overseas!

Wasn't the Midnight Special supposed to be a limited production run? If so, "L" was probably "Limited" since "S" was "Special".
