      Youre right

and i DO like you guys but ive looked around, and this is a VERY nice example of XESSIVEness it is VERY clean I also forgot to mention the TKAT fork brace i installed. I dont think thats too out of line especially after seeing miled out ones for 2000.00. 17 k is pretty low mileage.

I paid $60 for mine with 7,200 miles on it from the original owner.
I'm looking at the original receipt for the bike dated 4-13-1978 and the bike NEW was $3,140.00.
Fairing, touring seat, hard bags, rack/backrest, and case savers purchased at the same time brought the total to (with tax and license) $4,265.60.
These are great bikes but they're not collector's items. They're not appreciating in value and knocking off $140 fo 17,000 miles is......nevermind.
Altogether I have around $5,000 into my bike and I know that It would never sell for over $1500 (except to a fool, and I wouldn't want to be responsible for the death of a fool).
I hope you get what you want for it .

          Re: Shes Gotta go

I don't knock you for trying to get what you think it is worth. You will likely be holding it a long time until you find a buyer, however.

...I've also got an '80 Special (SG), black paint with the red sparkles...
'got mine, with 11,000 miles for $350...

You got yours less than 2 months ago for $1,400 - about the most anyone I know would pay for an XS11, and now you want $3K?... why do you want to make a killing on this bike? ...I don't think you'll do it on this board...

IMO you'll have the bike for a long time... even though it's 25 yrs old, it's NOT a 'collector'... so in that context it *IS* way out of line to think you could get $3K for it IMHO. You will have to find someone that has more money than sense...

List it on ebay and you will find out what price the market will really bring. Do it in April when the fever for bikes is heating up with the temps and you might see bids hit $2,000. But if you try to list it now in the winter months, you will be lucky to see the bids hit $800-$1,000. Its that way for most all bikes. Not just ours.

i could have bought six of mine for that much. i've had people tell me it looks like it is only a few years old.

                          Re: Again

Many on this list are "thrifty" and tend to look for bargain prices. Like I said, you will probably find a buyer, given enough time. It will likely be the kind of person that wants one of these bikes already fixed up, and may care much about how much it costs. Maybe your bike's color and acessories is exactly what that person is looking for. Maybe it will be a person with more money than time. I disagree about whether these bikes are "collectors" bikes. Obviously several of us are collecting them in our garages!!!
