    Hey, T.C.,

I have a digital camcorder, and a tranny that needs the B&D fix. Why don't you come over and I'll LET you fix the tranny while I capture it with the camcorder.

I'm in the same boat. I do general maintenance but am leery of pulling the carbs apart. It's a great idea, alot of procedures are easy when you know what you're doing but the first time around can be a little puzzling.

        Hey Nashville Bill,

I'll offer to fix it, IF you'll drive it out here on a Friday, so you can arrive Friday PM, we can then strip it down, flip it over, and then work on it Saturday, and have it done by that evening, and then you can ride it home Sunday!

We have to drain the main oil, the final drive, just cap the middle drive vent hose; have to pull the clutch, so we can also document it's tear down and replacement....do you need to replace your friction plates or springs?!

And I'll even let you video tape it!

We can then also show how to make your own gaskets!!

T.C., That sounds great to me! I'll get with you next spring and maybe we can plan a weekend. I think I will probably replace my clutch plates and springs at that time.

Robert, Ride your bike up to Nashville and we will do your carbs. You might want to order some float bowl gaskets and float valves from MikesXS or PartsnMoreOnline and have them ready to install. Didn't you have fuel coming out of the air box on the Suches ride this fall?

            Hey Bill,

Thanks, I very well may take you up on your offer at some time. The carbs seem to be ok now but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to give them a good cleaning. I did have a stuck float during the rally but T.C. was kind enough to dose my tank with Seafoam and I haven't had a problem since.

                    Well,

I'm getting psyched up about doing it, although it will take some time. And I would happily accept others video clips of projects that they are going to undertake this winter. I can easily edit them, and then add my own voice over so folks don't have to worry about making any instructional commentary!

So...if you're going to be doing some major surgery to your bike, ie., fork seals replacement, cam chain replacement, brake MC or caliper rebuild, etc., if you can take some video footage and then send it to me, that would be great! I can mix in still shots for better clarification of landmarks, and such for greater detail viewing, etc.!

So...I hope you all will have some patience, and I'll get to working on it thru this winter as well. BTW, when I do get it done, it will be sold for just cost of blanks and shipping ONLY, I'm not in it for the $$, but for the support of the community!

                        GREAT IDEA!

A Video on VHS/DVD anything would be great. I would buy it. And if the quality of the video is anything like the quality of the XS-11 caps I bought from UncleSpot then it would be a great video

                          Hi,

I am an Editor by trade. "How to" videos are a lot easier said than done. That said, I would be more than willing to lend my expertise with editing or shooting segments in and around the northern CA area. Have bike/camera, will travel. If you are planning on doing a tranny rebuild or 2nd gear fix, top end, big bore or such I would love to document the process.

In addition to the big jobs, it would be great to document the seasonal maintenance, daily checks and winter storage and some basic modifications - fuse box, ignition coils, fork brace, etc...

I think there would definitely be a lot of interested people in XS specific things like the big jobs, but the newbie stuff could also be marketable to a lot of different motorcycle owners - and it could be done affordably. Aside from pre-visualizing the segments so as to not waste time shooting, some lights (garage halogens would do) and a decent microphone or two, a camera and some free time are about all you would need. The real bottleneck comes in the post-productin, editing and dvd authoring. You just need someone with the time and the passion to see the project through. Like me!

Feel free to contact me if you are interested, or are doing the work on the bigger jobs.

                          -Patrick Kennedy

p.s. aside from my day job as an assistant at pixar, here are some links to current independant doc productions I am consulting:
Sierra Leone’s Refugee all Stars is a feature-length documentary that tells the uplifting story of a group of six Sierra Leonean musicians who came together to form a band while living as refugees in the Republic of Guinea . A brutal civil war (1991-2002) forced them from their homes in Sierra Leo

                            Patrick,

Been in the same business for 30 years. Easier said than done is so very right. TC has done some docs on road experiences an I think they turned out watchable to our group. I enjoyed seeing what he had done.
Looked at your site and liked the way it loaded until the Quicktime file didn't load with the trailer. Our network is looking for docs and we might be interested in reviewing the refugee film for our Spanish language broadcast house. Send me a PM and we can talk.

TC - give me a hollar when you get closer to what you ultimately are going to do and shoot. only two hours away and if we are scheduled well could lend a hand. But have to have lots of notice.

                              Hey Patrick...

I'm over the hill from you (~89 miles) - my shop is in Modesto. I've made instructional videos on reconing speakers, setting up tube amps (BIASing tubes), proper use of musical gear, and 'care-and-feeding' of custom gear I've manufactured. I've got a 'special' room that can be used, or the warehouse portion...
So far I've got an extra set of carbs that need to be rebuilt, and would like to do something that includes 'common' preventive maintenance.

I'm currently looking for several more XS11s to 'dissect' and 'bring back to life'. ...I really like these bikes, but I'm finding out local Yamaha dealers/service centers don't want ANYthing to do with XS11s, and this is driving me to learn, and share with other enthusiasts, how to keep this wonderful motorcycle on the road.

TC and deo could handle stuff on the East coast and we could do some projects on the West coast...

                              Patrick,
Call me (shop: 209 578-2990 M-F 10-7, Sat 10-5) if you're interested in starting a few projects after the holidays.
