  • rubber bits wearing out...

ALL of my side cover grommets are 'disintegrating' - as well as the rubber gasket for the gas cap...

...anybody replace these recently? Where did you get them? ...are there any other 'rubber bits' that are known to degenerate over time?

    TIA,
    Ron (UncleSpot)

OK, I looked 'em up. Here's the comparison

          Part PS Price BB Price
          Engine Stay [mount] 12.99 discontinued
Front master cyl kit 42.99 41.26
Rt side cover grommet 1.99 1.34

Shipping - Bike Bandit 6.00 flat

Shipping - Power Sports order of 4.99 or less 4.99
larger orders 9.99 and up to 21.99

So the mastyer cyl kit would be:

          PS 42.99 + 9.99
          BB 41.26 + 6.00

I will probably check both on the next order I place.

FWIW, I bought a front master cylinder rebuild kit from Zanotti Motors for my XJ 2 weeks ago. Price was $23.03. (List $35.71) Order contained 6 other items, item total for all 7 was $54.97, shipping (UPS Ground) was $8.67. Discount from list on all 7 items was an even $32.00.

Zanotti Motors has a "Go Shopping" link on their web page. Click on Manufacturer and select Yamaha, then enter part number in space provided, hit Lookup Part, and price will show up in an answer table under the part number. Easy way to check prices. I have an account, but it isn't necessary to use the lookup feature.

            Web address is:
            http://www.zanottimotor.com/index.html

I've used Zanotti for several years now, excellent service and prices. No connection, just a satisfied customer.

Try www.partsnmoreonline.com for your MC kit. It's only $18 and if you find $30 worth of stuff to buy, the shipping is free.

                    Grommets

All my grommets were bad or lost on my venture, the ones that hold the side covers on 4 on each side. I happened to be in canadian tire and asked if they had any rubber grommets. yup 29 cents each worked perfect . You might try auto zone or something like that in the states. It was a nice suprise to find them so cheap.................MITCH

I found an 82 yamaha 650 seca, it had some grommets on it that fit my 79 standard, you might want to look around in a bike junk yard, and pick them up cheap. Later 'Dog
