  • need part numbers please!

My local mechanic and I are confused, I need new brake pads (front) and there are alot of options.

My bikes serial number is 5N5-000538, '81 XS1.1

Does anyone know the model and what part numbers to order for the front brake pads?

    Thanks!

Try this link to get the P/N..

    http://parts.yamaha-motor.com/

Then ether have your local dealership order them in for you or you can order them from...

    http://www.powersportspro.com/

Or you can get other brands of pads at Dennis Kirk as I did recently at..

just done a bit of research for you,all that i can find is a part no for front brake pads is W0045-00,this is the most common number that i can find, all you do is put the first 3 digets from your frame no 5n5 in front of the part no,so i think your part no could be 5n5-w0045-00.are the front brake calipers the same as the back ones, are they a leading or trailing caliper,(in the front of the fork or behind it )

Thanks for the help guys, what would be really helpfull is knowing the bikes model (s,g,r etc). If any one knows where to look I'd be grateful. I know it's the 1.1sport but that doesn't help the bloke in the shop.

          Okay Justin,

There are only 3 types of pads for our bikes:
1)the Flat types for the front Standards,
2)the Angled/slanted types for Front Specials
3)the Flat types for the Rears, Standards and Specials.

The Rears are allegedly a different material, hence a different number vs. just using a pair of the flat front styles!!

So, on your Sport 1.1, are the front forks like the Specials, with leading axles, and therefore slanted calipers, or do they have the axles on the bottoms, like standards that use the Flat pads!?

Then just order any year you want according to shape!!!
Here's the "brakedown" ....pun intended on the pad #s per the Yamaha Online Parts Catalog:

When I went to the dealer for genuine pads for my 78E a couple of years ago, I had the parts fiche numbers with me. The dealer loooked them up and had a note about replacement numbers that Yamaha had changed a few years back. The material was also different from the original, and both the front and rear had the same material. I installed them and had no problems. HTH

thanks scoobes! now I can order the parts and leave it to YAMAHA to send the right type.

Topcat, the difference between the 81H and the 81SH is the reason I'm reluctant to tell the shop the part number I want, if it's my mistake, I have to pay. If I just demand pads for an 81RH he can worry about part numbers and bear the cost of any error.

I must say that's a very comprehensive list though!

                  What do I have?

I have some genuine YAMAHA pads. pn 4W1-W0046-09

Will they fit my '80 XS1100SG? If so, what side?

                  Thanx!

the pads you have are for a LH model, you will have to take your own pads out and put them back to back with the new ones to see if they are the same.

It's a long story, but there are no pads in my calipers to check, so I guess I'll just try to install them in one of the calipers. Thanks for looking up the part number.

without checking i think there are three different front calipers on the xs? the best way to go is if you can take a photo of your front brake calipers and post it on here, then ask the members if they have the same calipers on there xs and what model it is they have, then you go and order the right pads for your bike ,sorted
