  • Carb Jet Removal

I am trying to clean the carbs on my newly acquired XS1100SH even though the PO said they had just been gone through. I found the retainer, and screw, for #4 needle/seat in the bottom of the float bowl and then had to drill out the #3 seat. I think they were just gone through in 1981.

My problem is that I can't get the pilot jets out. I think they are the pilot jets. They are recessed above the float chambers. I buggered up one of the screw slots, with a good fitting screwdriver, and just gave up on the other ones.

I re-assembled the carbs and seems to be running fairly well, but I would like to have a plan as to how to get these out. Will I have to drill them out like the #3 seat? I have a set of left handed drill bits but I chickened out on drilling them out the first time.

I just ordered new carb boots from PartsNMore and would like to get this taken care of before putting everything back together.

    Hi nashville bill,
i have had this problem myself. I just used an easy out to extract 2 out of my carbs. i drilled with the size marked on the easy out. cannot remember the size though. after getting the easy out into the hole, tap on the end of it several time. vibation is the key to removing stubborn parts. I break Brake lines loose at work by using a line wrench and air hammer. I put the hammer head on the outside of the head of the wrench. Apply pressure on wrench and pull trigger. this takes practice tough. You find quick practical soultions when working on the Flat Rate!

    good luck, extraction sucks
