I have a 78' E model xs1100 will the front brake components off of a 80' special fit my bike? . I need a left side caliper pads and all plumbing for dual brake system. For some reason the previous owner put a single disc setup on my bike.It has poor braking ability like this and I am trying to correct. The yamaha parts site was no help they do not have the part numbers for a 80' special.Let me know if this will work? Thanks!

John's right. Dan, you will need to look for a calliper set from a Standard model. The Specials used different fork tubes and front brake calipers then the Standards.

Which side caliper is missing from your bike? The XS650 (standard and Special) from 1977 through 1984 uses the same front caliper as the XS1100 standard. The drawback is that the US models have only one and it's on the right side. The XS750 and XS850 standard may use the same ones as well, but I'm not positive. The 750 and 850 have smaller rotors. The XS650 has the same rotor as the XS1100 as long as it's a 1977 or later model. 650 rotors do not have the slots in them.Marty (in Mississippi)

XS1100 caliper
What you discribed is exactaly what I have, The rotor and caliper is on the right side. This is how I bought it I have no Idea why it was changed. The wheel that I have now does have the holes on the left side for a rotor but has a series of plastic plugs pushed in the holes. The left side fork tube has the casting bosses for a caliper. So I need a left side caliper and plumbing required to add additional caliper. I bought a set of rotors on ebay for a special will they fit on a standard. I hope!. I also bought a set of calipers and hoses for a special but have learned that they will not fit . Can any one help me ! I have a whole pile of parts that will not fit my bike now and I am tired of buying stuff that does not fit. Is there a parts cross reference index any where? The Yamaha web site has been little help because it is missing most of the brake component part numbers for some years. Thanks!Dan ( A.K.A.- MacGyver )

left caliper needed
The rotors you bought will work fine. The hose may work as well. To be safe, you need to put out an APB for a left side caliper XS1100 standard. There is competition on eBay from the XS650 folks who like to add a second. I did it myself. If you get no response here PM me, and I'll send a plea on the 650 mail list.
I wish I was sure about the 750/850 caliper!Marty (in Mississippi)
