Gear lever

Just being curious, I wonder if any XS owners have a gear linkage setup like this one - http://homepages.inspire.net.nz/~patrick/lever.jpg
Of the pics on this site, I haven't noticed one the same. The previous owner of this 78E claimed it was a model factory built for production racing (he reckoned there were 101 built) but I've always been a bit skeptical, although the motor was a 'screamer'. The bike eventually clocked up over 170,000 hard out kms but never had any 2nd gear problems. Maybe the factory modded the gears on this type?

Gear change is fitted to the 1.1s think it was europe only model,few more than 101 made but not to sure how many left on road now,apart from mine

Weird. Were 1.1's built in 78? This thing was oil cooled, naked, and originally a blue colour. Engine No 2H9.

No, but you would only have to change cover and fit gear change as far as i know

Shortie lever

Yep - that's the short lever from a 1.1 Sport thing..... in Oz (maybe NZ??) the model was designated the RH as far as I know from Glenn and others on here from "down-under".

That, the brake lever and different (shorter) castings for the foot-peg hangers give the 1.1 Sport a "tucked back" position with your feet directly under your hips... like the old GPz1100's etc.

Definitely not a factory racer... although slightly different cams for peak torque a bit lower down.... which is fun . Pretty popular in Europe whilst they were made...build numbers ...I've no idea...but you see a fair few around this part of the world still.

all xs1100s in australia have this gear leaver setup.
stds from 1978 to 1982 have this gear lever
rh 1981 has the same gear lever
differences in footpegs and gear and brake levers
usa foot peg is forward on bolts
std aus pot peg is straight up
rh/sport footpeg is back from engine bolt
each model also has different brake levers same shape usa is the longest and rh/sport is the shortist

for this type of setup you need
1 gear cover plate with pin sticking out.not on us models
2 australian foot pegs ie std or rh or euro sport.
3 as above but brake lever
4 the gear lever linkage

Jerry, a buddy from work has one for sale.. of course, it DOES come with a complete '78E XS1100 tho..

His is a European import, he's not sure exactly where from. He bought it from a guy who was in the military and had it shipped home.

It's a personal preference thing - I swapped the 78's short brake pedal, short alloy brackets, and rearset pegs to my current bike because I liked the less upright stance.
