  • XJ boost sensor

Great site, a lot of useful info. Does anybody know how to test a xj boost sensor. Bike runs good but when coming off the throttle it seems to hang up with a high idle. If I release the clutch a little an put a load on the motor it comes down for a while then the idle creeps back up. Any help is appreciated.

Randy would be the one to ask this question. He is the resident electrical wiz. I believe he did some work with a boost sensor a while ago. What I know about them is that they monitor the vacuum at #2 carb, and send a signal to the TCI and the TCI will adjust the engine timing accordingly. Check this with a timing light at the the timing marks on the left side of the engine.
If you find that you need a boost sensor, I do have one available.
Another area to check is the throttle adjustment, and, or cable. If the cable is not operating smoothly(hanging up) it will cause a problem like you describe, or the balance between the carbs is off, and they may need to be synched.

Problemed solved....intake boot was sucking air after the motor heated up. Sealed with some gasket compound and throttle response is back. Snyc carbs is next on the list, but it runs great as is. Thanks John you pointed me in a better direction with the carbs than the boost sensor. Gone ride
