  • Octopus Diaphragm

Does anyone know where I can buy a diaphragm for the octopus fuel valve on my Special? The dealer only sells the diaphragm assembly. I bought a rebuild kit off ebay last year that had parts for the fuel valve and both petcocks, but I don't need all of that this time.

Find a dealer that orders aftermarket stuff from K & L supply; or was it Tucker Rocky? Can't 'member. Can't recall the price either, but the kit just has the diaphram, the rubber disk with the four holes, and an O-ring for the front.

I found a diaphragm that looks like it will work in the octopus valve, BUT IT WON'T. It is K&L part# 18-6633 and it is almost identical, but it won't shut off the gas. I can't quite figure out why, but if I blow through the hose with this part in it, it leaks. I didn't try it with gas, but I wouldn't want to chance it. By the way the old part will not allow air to pass through it. I'm going to try to return it to the store.

Bill, I don't know about replacement diaphragm, but I have a few extra octopus's (octopi) )
I need to keep one as a back-up, but I would certainly sell one of the others for a reasonable price.
If interested, you can contact me offlist, and we can work it out.

Thanks, Mike, but I'm really looking for a new part so I won't have to do this again in a couple of months.

The K&L diaphragm is the same except the shaft that has the o-ring is a milimeter or two shorter than the original. Since it is shorter, it never shuts the fuel off.

Yep, been there, done that. The plunger is not the correct length.

New Octopus is only about $35....
