    Leading Link Front End

To:JonInDenver, I do not have a leading link front end on my side hack. I have been thinking of ways I might provide more lateral stiffness to that "Willowy" XS front end. A slash/2 BMW front end known as the Earles Front End would be super if it could be adapted. Christopher. "The Gimp"

Speedo on the XJ is mechanically driven, but there are internal/size differences. (Reset button is front mounted on the XJ, for example.) The XS units are not interchangeable with the XJ unit. Drive on front axle is the same, speedo cable lengths vary between models.

Tachs on the XS and XJ are electronic, reading pulses from the charging system. Have not tried swapping them, tach on the XJ is also mechanically different to fit instrument cluster, but I suspect functionally they would swap.

As far as I know the XJ uses the same gears and gear ratios as the XS. Transmission parts, middle box, rear end all carry same part numbers (cosmetic differences in rear ends, some silver, some black) so I don't think that using an XJ bottom end would affect your gear ratios.
