  • AAAAAAHHH!! Co-worker dumped my bike!

Just need to vent a bit, guys. you've all been here for me over the past year or so while I rebuild Swamp Thing from a pile of **** to a nice ride. Well, I've been commuting to work on her since July and she's just great.

Yesterday some dumb **** who works with me backed into Swamp Thing trying to fit his vehicle into MY PARKING SPOT. Dumped her on her left side.

    Damage list:

    Left Mirror smashed

Clutch lever bracket snapped in two.

    Clutch lever bent

    Lever Boot torn

    Speedo housing dented

Headlight rim not square any more

Left rear turn signal is toast

Total about $180 not including repair time.

The good thing is, he came to me right away and fessed up, wanted to settle right there and then for cash, but I made him wait 'till I looked up the parts on Bike Bandit (he..he..) So the extra bucks make up for my time.

His excuse: "I didn't see it" "DRIVE WITH YOUR ****ING EYES OPEN, YOU *******"

Have a great weekend everybody. OH, and anyone got a square headlight rim?

    Randy

Sorry to hear about Swamp Thing meeting the pavement. Hope you get it fixed, and back on the road soon. I was looking at Mikes XS.com the other day, and they stock the clutch lever bracket, and levers. They are from a 650 but they should be the same. Not sure if Bike Bandit has them or not.

$180! he is getting off cheap. If he would have caused that kind of damage to a new bike, or a HARLEY! it would be at least 2X.

        Them cagers - %$#^&%$#

hope you have a speedy repair.

          Geezus Randy!!!!!!!!!!!!
180$.... I'd have ripped him a "new one" I think...

I don't have any of those parts you need... sorry.... I hope it comes together quickly for you though. You have put a bunch of hard work, $$$ and LOVE into Swamp Thing.

A body of mine has a very nice 650 MNS. Last week he went on a short ride with 2 H-D buddies and they stopped for lunch .
He came out of the restaurant and the Special was on its side... someone had to have walked between one Harley and his bike and kicked it over onto the right side (away from the side stand)
There is similar damage to his and we are fixing it up this weekend.

Sorry to hear your news, but good thing the A-hole with the new drivers license fessed-up.
          - good luck, Larry

Dimwit in car would have learnt a lesson. Probably feels pretty bad. What it costs is what it costs. No profits involved in honesty.

Well at least he fessed up. I hate people that take off. Basically let him live, but rub it in, maybe next time he'll pay attention.

Oh, he learned a lesson all right, when you hit a 600 lb. anything it's going to leave a mark!

Actually, his damage is in the thousands. The mini-van he was driving was brand new (2 days ) and he put a big crater in his tailgate. I say if you can't drive it, sell it.

BTW, already got the controls and mirror done, so riding time is only affected for three days. The rest is cosmetic.

                Cheers,

                Randy

the only part I have you could use is a speedo housing (if you still need it.) it's off my '80XS1100SG - or do you have a 'Standard' with the square speedo...?

I could send it USPS Priority mail - your cost: ~$5.50 ...*IF* you're interested... (otherwise - it is *not* for sale... this is to help someone that *needs it*)

Thanks, Guys. I actually won the bid ($21.50) on that NOS headlight rim. Somebody up there likes me, I guess. And, I have a spare speedo housing (as well as a spare tach housing), so I'm done shopping and came in under $100 for everything NEW. Not bad. And if you figure in an hour or two for installation, I'm breakling even. Which is a better deal than a hit and run.

Anybody need a tach housing for a Standard? Free, except for $4.85 USPS Priority Mail.

Sorry to hear the news Randy. It happened to me 3 years ago, feels like yesterday after hearing this. It had only been one night that I had brought home my "Special" and I found it laying on the ground the next morning with a broken mirror and gas all drained out. That what happens when you live in Chicago and don't have a garage. Well now I live in the suburbs and keep my bike in a Public storage 8X10 cell about 3 blocks from me. I could finally sleep at night.
