Well, in my ongoing battle to fix the low-end problems on eXJunk, I did the "carb shimmy" last night and pulled them back off. Before beginning the tear-down (again!), I decided to build Ken's carb stand. When I got it done, I mounted my temporary tank, set the carbs on it, and checked the float level before doing anything. I found that I had the float level about 1/8" too high on all the carbs. It would seem that would cause a rich problem, but what I had was a lean low speed condition. I had to have the pilot screws backed out about 4.5 to 5 turns to get it to idle and accelerate (with a bad stumble). I still had to choke it to get it accelerate until it hit about 5k. Then it ran like a scalded dog! I'm assuming that opening the pilot screws richens the mix. And even after I disassembled the carbs, I found nothing obviously wrong. I did put all the jets and the needle tubes into the soak overnight. Probably this evening I wil go thru all the parts and the carb bodies with spray cleaner and compressed air and clean everything up and reassemble. Then I'll use the stand to bench synch and set the float levels properly. The deeper I get into this, the more baffled I am..... Is there anyplace that shows a cutaway with all the circuits for these carbs?
