  • Throttle Cable

I just rebuilt the carbs on my 1980 Midnight special and after I reinstalled everything I started it up and the engine never idled it just shot up to 7000 rpms. I thought maybe I accidently turned the idle up but it wasnt that so I took the throttle cable off the carbs and it started and idled perfectly. Somehow my throtle cable got shorter and it wont give my any slack at the handlebar. What should I do?

    new cable

could you possibly have kinked the cable? did you have the cable off the bike? matbe rerouted it incorrectly.old cable sticky in the sheath? these are a few i know of. Is the cable seated in the holder at the carbs?

Check to make sure that none of the clamps that attach the carbs to the boots aren't interfering with the linkage. The clamp may be in such a position that it is hitting the linkage where the cable attaches. DAMHIKIJD
