If your "Pro" used K&L rebuild kits, you could still have a too rich problem. These kits are notoriously poor kits. The problem is typically in the pilot jets. I also had trouble with their float seats as well.

OK, got it all put together today. She fired right up and sounded great. The idle was a little unstable wandering up and by aprox 1000 or so rpm's. I tok her for a short ride, run great and pulled strong all the way to the red line. After a mile, one or maybe even two cylinders shut down. Not sure wich ones yet, by that time it was getting pretty dark. But I pulled a couple of sparkplugs, that I cleaned really well before I started up, they where both full of soot again! SO now I guess I am in for another carburetor removal, and the pilot jets are next on the list. Where would be the best place to get pilot jets, and what number do I look for?
Yes my pro used K&L kit, so there we have it.Mountlake Terrace, WA.

Yea, that would be the best thing to do, BUT I had to order new mainjets, I ordered #110. And now I need to order new pilot jets, just need to find out the number. I would love to put the old stuff back in and throw away the K&L crap, but my pro carburetor rebuilder, wich is also my brother in law, throwed all the old parts in the trash a few months ago. That is why I need to find the original Mikuni pilots somewhere on the webMountlake Terrace, WA.

You should be able to obtain #42.5 mikuni pilots from almost any Japanese M/C dealer. If he does not have in stock he should be able to order with about a one day turn around.
The cost will vary between dealer to dealer but the absolute top price should be under $4.00 each.

Never throw that stuff away. I keep all the old stuff unless it's broken. I figure that I may need to use it in some way or another some day. Kinda glad I keep that stuff. I've used parts from the Ol' carb bin on other carbs in a pinch. Might not be perfect but it works.S.R.Czekus

You can get the parts you need at motorcyclecarbs.com, (pricey, but OEM) or try ordering them from mikesxs.com They carry them too, and I believe thay are OEM.
Never throw that stuff away. Sounds like your B I L really isn't such a pro. He should have known better.

yieeekes!
This is driving me nuts! When I first found out about the freakin' K&L kit beeing messed up, I got new main jets right away, had several options to pick from, and I got them from www.hondaeast.com but I am not able to find the pilot jets from them. Also searched the net several times. I went to a local Yamaha dealer today, he had 1 (ONE!!) pilot jet in stock, what would I do with the other 3 carbs?
I must have lost gallons of blood, and used a fortune in bandaids since I started working on those carbs, not very fun to pull out, or put back in! Trying to find the jets online has been a (MID)night-mare! Search on google lists lots of places to buy, but when it get down to it, the item is not available. Also some places have several pilot jets, but not any info on the part needed for my carbs. Say Denniskirk.com, several different jets, but wich one do I order? Anyone here order from denniskirk before that would possible know the part number for the pilot jets I need?? That big sledgehammer is moved a foot closer to the bike now. I will for sure use it on my brotehr inlaw if he shows up at my house again!
John, I tried motorcyclecarbs.com could not find anything there, not how to order or anything, very confusing website I must say.
I have emailed mikesxs so I will know if hje has them as soon as he answers.Mountlake Terrace, WA.

I posted this reply to another thread to you back on 1-28-05:
Hey Midnite,
For the Pilot jets, the BS30/96 series pilot jets, they have the smaller diameter threaded section, and the tapered pointed ends are more pointed, you can see the example in the photos in the Carb tech tips section, Blaine Hoopes FAQ tip!!

Jets
MikesXS is a good one. He will be able to help as long as you order exactly what you need (42.5 pilots). Do not ask Mike advice on what jets you should use in an XS11. He just may shut you down. He doesn't want to hear anything about XS11's. His only love is XS650's and he tries to protect his parts stock pile for them.

OK, I will go with Mike's, just look here:
Dennis Kirk
There is 13 numbers listed for the same part??? Part numbers go from 176030, 176040, 1760325 and it goes on, no difference in description that i can see? Not knowing how the jets even look like it is not easy, let me tell you.
TopCat, I did not remember that message, back then I was made to believe that the main jets was the problem to my rich carbs, but now I am told that it is the pilots, not the mains, so I possible could have saved some $ by keeping the K&L mains and replaced just the pilots. AND I sure would have saved by keeping my brotherinlaw away from my carbs!

I am posting a reply to myself, it just dawned on me that the part numbers probably are refering to the jet size! 176030 is a #30 and a 1760325 is a #32.5!

LOL Ken, that will probably be the next I'll do :-)
I now got the jets ordered from Mikes, so as soon as they arrive I will install them and try again. This weekend I am taking the carbs off the bike again so everything will be ready for the next round.Mountlake Terrace, WA.
