I think I'm gonna rewire my XJ. I've been going through pulling at wires and I'm coming up with green copper corrosion and wires that just pull out of connectors. I'm surprised the bike ran in the first place. I suppose it was just a matter of time before it quit with the connections it had on it.

Anybody out there have a wiring harness for an XJ? Otherwise I'm gonna go replace the wires one by one.

If the wires themselves look okay, you might save yourelf a lot of grief by just buying new connector blocks and the pins that go in them.

This may seem like a stupid question, but where do the wires to the ignition come back out of the wiring harness. I can't seem to find the plug with those wires.

By "ignition", I assume you mean the ignition switch? If so, it should be inside the headlight shell.

          Getting Close...I can feel it!

I've been tracing the continuity of the ignition system wires now for 2 days and came upon 2 broken wires. The Orange and Grey wires to both ignition coils were broken. I wired around them and hit the starter, it cranked over one time and refused to turn further...the battery was dead! I'm hoping that I've found the problem and I'll have her up and running for the Big Island Labor Day Ride. Apparently thousands of bikes are shipped here for the labor day weekend and there are motorcycle themed events all weekend. The major ride is Monday and I'm hoping to be ready!

          Wish me luck!
