  • Carb hose hookup

I just got a 79 XS1100. When I got it, the carbs were completely off as well as the airbox and all the hoses. I managed to get the airbox bacvk togeter and the carburetors back on the bike. However, I have no idea where the hoses go. There are 2 hoses coming from either side of the carburetor (total of 4) and there are two skinny hoses coming from the manifold boots.

The fuel petcocks have 2 spots each where I presume the hoses coming from the carbs go. But when I hook them up and turn on the gas, gas leaks out onto the floor. On the right side, the gas leaks from the airbox. And on the left side the gas leaks from the carb bowl.

Anyway, my question is where do these hose coming from the manifold boots go to?

Why am I leaking gas everywhere
If anyone knows anything about this, then I would greatly appreciate your response.
Do or do not. There is no trying.

Do a search for "octopus". I diagram was posted in that thread this week. There is also detailed description in that thread.

Simultaneously, there is a thread titled diaphram with the info you are looking for. This thread is active today.

Do you have a Standard or a "special"? The hose routing is different for each. The special uses the octopus, the stadard does not. If yours is a standard the hose routing is the 2 vacuum lines from the carb boots to the vacuum nipples on the tank valve, the lower lines frome the tees between the carbs to the fuel nipple on the tank valve, the upper two lines go to the nipples on the air box. There are a lot of threads on the octopus routing.

Thanks for the replies. Steelcat: It is a standard. I guess I should have mentioned that in my original post. I was really confused about what an octopus was so thank you for clarifying that for me.

        One question though:

Do you know how I can find out the sizes of the 6 hoses of the carb and manifold boots mentioned in your reply?

          Hey there Willy,

ALL of the hoses are 1/4" ID type. You can use vacuum hose for the actual vacuum lines, but get FUEL hose for the rest!! Vacuum hose will harden very quickly with exposure to gas and heat, and then leak, and possibly catch fire.. not a good thing!!
