    Hello everyone,
I'm new to the website so I hope I'm doing this right. I bought a 1980 xs11g from the salvation army for $200 I've put about $500 into it (new tires, wheel bearings, etc.) I've been running it but have a problem with the turn indicators, The local dealer has a new solanoid for $80 anybody know a cheaper replacement??

    Turn Indicators

Not sure on an 11G but on a XS11 standard a 2 prong automotive flasher worth about $4.00 will work. You lose the self canceling feature but for $76.00 I'm sure you will learn to adapt quite quickly.

I put an automotive 2 prong 12v flasher on mine. You lose the auto-cancellation feature, but it works well.

          flasher unit

The expensive Yamaflasher on my XS650 quit. It was the rectangular one, it's possible to pry the cover off those and sand the points which worked for me that time. My XS11SG has a cylindrical Yamaflasher that is sealed so it's innards can't be got at.
When buying an automotive replacement flasher be sure and spend the extra $2 to get an electronic one as they pulse at the same rate regardless of the signal lamp power draw.
This don't matter if you still have the two 27W stock signal bulbs but if you have replaced those with lower wattage bulbs the stock flasher won't work at all and if you put a third lamp in the circuit the lamps'll flash faster than they should. Be warned that if (like Mr Stupid did) you mistake the dark brown power wire for the black ground wire and create a dead short in the signal circuit the electronic flasher will give the same stately pulse cadence to the dead short as it did to the signal lights. For mebbe three pulses before the main fuse blows.
BTW on the XS11SG the main fuse ain't with the others, it's end-on in a little rubber box under the left side cover.
