I just picked up a used windshield for my Windjammer SS that has some minor scratches from typical road debris...nothing too serious. Anyone have advice on a good polish/cleaner for a plexi windshield?

I've used McGuires cleaner and polish for years with good results. I think it's a good product because I discovered my Dad uses it on airplane canopies and he's picky.Pat Kelly

I also use Novus, the #2 variety. #3 is more coarse and does more polishing, #1 is fine and takes a lot of elbow grease to get anything done. I found mine in motorcycle shops. Comes in different size containers.
Have heard that some folks use toothpaste to polish out windshields.
For cleaning I have gone to the Honda windshield cleaner in an aresol can. Price is about $5.00. Does a nice job.Jerry Fields

I got mine from JC WHitney. I believe I have seen it in automotive paint supply stores and I'll bet you can get it in auto parts stores.

Skids, is Novus a parts store item, or do I need to look at a plastics specialty shop?Skids (Sid Hansen)

If any of you has a friend that just happens to be an aircraft mechanic, then ask him if he can get his hands on a 'Micro Mesh' kit. It is a series of abrasive cloths that are used for polishing out aircraft windows. The kit starts with a 600 grit, and progresses to something like 10-12,000 grit cloths that will polish up the worst bike windshield. I used one on mine when it was given to me years ago. It had some MAJOR scratches, and I was able to sand them out. It looked as good as new when I finished. Then i hit it with McQuires Plastic Polish and a buffing pad on a drill motor.

After you polish it up with plastic polish, spray it with pledge wax and wipe it clean with a soft cloth. You won't believe the difference. This also works great for face shields plastic eyeglasses.

I have to agree with the "Micro-Mesh" kit . It will defenetly get even the worst windshields cristal clear. Along with the aviation stuff, I forget the name of this stuff, I ran out during the Sturgis ralley, But it's arcraft window cleaner/ shiney stuff cleaner/polisher, It will make a good clear windshield very slick. Bugs don't like to stick to slick stuff. They'll still stick but just not as many. Maguires detail spray works O.K. A buddy of mine uses it on his Hogley Roadkill.S.R.Czekus

Plexus?
It works good to shine and clean, but don't expect much "polishing" or abrasive effect from it.'81 XS11H Venturer - holed up in storage while life happened since 07/08/04
