  • when does choke stop working?

    Choke question:

In order to clean the choke holes in my carbs I used a very small drill bit but I think it may have been a little too big. Can the larger holes allow fuel into the engine when the choke is off IE: When I'm cruising on the highway at 4000 RPM?

Wondering because tonight when I started bike, I saw sooty exhaust for a bit.

What choke holes? In the bowl area?

      choke holes

Yes, there are "choke holes" in the bowl area. There's a pick-up tube that drops into the edge of the bowl and then a hole in the bottom of the float bowl leading to the pick-up hole.... Don't know if that makes sense or not.

Your 'enlarged ' jets(holes) won't flow gas until the lever's opened tab. Sooty on startup because they're now super rich.

          Re: choke holes

I really don't think that enlarging the hole in the float bowl makes any difference. Only run the choke long enough to get the bike going, then switch over. You might not even need the full choke position at all and just go with the half choke to start it.
