Air Intake Box

I want to change my air intake back to the stock air box from the pod style filters. I have found an air box at a local bike graveyard, but the propriorter is not sure what year this box comes off of. I own a 1981 XS1100SH. My question is as follows: are 1979 thru 1981 air boxes interchangeable or adaptable?

Yes, the airboxes are interchangeable. The only difference should be the 79-79s will be drilled out for the vent hoses that attach to the upper Ts between the carbs on 78-79s. An airbox from 80-81 will not be drilled out. What year, style of carbs do you have?
