bad battery

would a battery on its way to battery heaven be responsible for misfiring when giving throttle? just got my xs back fron the shop and they are suggesting I'm not getting enough spark when accelerating...apparently the battery tests out at just over 12 volts under load rather than the 13.8 volts I've been advised it should put out.

Yes it could. Ignitions take a surprising amount of power at higher rpm's...
