Yeah Mitch, I suppose getting the butterflys set even is more important for a start. If they don't require setting back down though, the mixture screws are likely set too strangled.

      Use the bread tie method:

Use one that is more plastic than paper, it will be very difficult to remove the "paper". Take a lighter and light the covering about an inch length of flame. Blow it out and wipe it with a damp cloth. This will leave a very thin covering of melted plastic on the wire to avoid scratching anything!! Set the main plate as instructed above to just allow the wire to pass UNDER the throttle plate. It should just clear with slight hesitation. Now adjust the rest as instructed above. Operate the main throttle several dozen times to make sure all are following and any mishaps are accounted for early. This takes about 20 minutes to get it juuuuust right. Now adjust the main idle screw until the tiny hole in the top is just about half-way covered. As stated, I hope your eyesight is good!! Use this as a verifier that all four holes in each carb are exactly the same! Very important. If not, remember they all are interdependent. If one of the outlying carbs are off you can adjust it w/out messing up the others. If you are off, start over. I usually find I have to readjust #1. This is a pretty accurate bench sych and should get you up and running until you can vacuum synch.
