  • Pulled exaust stud

Hello Im new to the board and have a quick question. I recently purchased an XS1100 special from a local shop. I was riding it and all the sudden it started makin a horrible noise. After getting it home I inspected the headers and noticed one of the them to be loose. I tried to tighten it but to my dismay the stud pulled out of the head. Apperently the previaus owner had JB welded the stud into the head. I drilled out the JB weld and chased the previous threads, inserted a heli-coil but it still fit loosely. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Install a new header gasket. They're a compression type gasket. When you install the header, it will crush the gasket ( kinda like the washer on a new spark plug ) and seal it up. Make sure that the surfaces are good and flat though, otherwise it's just gonna %iss you off.
