KK my intake valve clearance is est .080 on all 4 vary little. MY exhaust clearance is est. .160 between the 4 and all close to the
estimate. Spec say intake est. .19, exhaust .23.
So my clearance is tight right? So i can take a little steel off the
shims and measuring until i get the right clearance. I'm kinda confused cause someone on my other threads told me i have slop,
but i dont think i want the lobes and valve pads any closer do I?

taking steel off the shims would increase your clearence, so if your reading are correct than that is what you would need to do. Your reading indicate tight clearence. However, I would simply take your measurments, record the size of your current valve shims and replace them with the correct ones. The shims are not very expensive and a small cost to pay for correct clearance and performance. When you get the valve clearence in specs you will want to resync the carbs. Once thats all done you should find a much better responding motor. I had the same issues with mine and after several times of adjusting, I finally got them all in specs. The excelleration is soo much smoohter and quicker than ever before.

When you do your math and figure out what size shims you need,
post it and mabee some of us here may have what you need and would be willing to trade you one for one. I did the valves on MIYAMI this way. You don't want to shave anything off of the shims. Unless you are a machinist and know about precise measurements, ( in the .0001 ) and about steel temperment. It takes less time to fix it right then it does to monkey rig it.
Also, If there's a will, there's a way. I'm quite sure that you can find a suitable place to work on that bike. Storage facilities are plentifull and not very expensive.AND a bag of oil dry sweep goes along way. I know the bay area and there is alot to offer. I wish I agree'd with all of the stupid stuff that goes on in Cal. %ell, I'd consider moveing back.

        Hey Griff,

In your earlier posts on the other thread, you misquoted your measurements as 0.800 and not 0.080, hence people thought you had .60 too much space vs. 0.12 too little!!

Rover sent me a diagram for a home made valve lifter shim tool. It's too large image wise to post here, but I can easily post a link to it for D/L and printing!!
