  • XS Eleven performance

Where can I find performance parts for my 78 xs eleven? By what I'm reading the engine has alot of performance and is bulletproof. I allready have plans to build a custom turbo kkit for it but I want to know who sells parts like coils and internal engine parts. Thanks

      One off stuff

Hey Chad,we are pretty much at a loss for PERFORMANCE parts. You can still get big bore kits from a few suppliers , i believe 1176 or 1196,But as far as coils etc,you would have to modifiy or fabricate things as needed.I've talked to a pretty good speed bike mechanic,(at least good for my parts of contry). He says rods and timing chain wont hold up to well for gobs of h.p. (for example nitros) He claims a good port and polish will do wonders on theese bikes. Also claims stock cams are actually pretty hot for stock and will take a bigger carb 36mm as opposed to 34 stock.I've got a set of FJ 1200 carbs that one day i will put on the spacing was very close as i did have them installed once but ran out of funds to finish toying. They needed a push pull type throtle set up.So if your handy enough to set up a turbo most other hop ups for cars will work on theese beasts also (more fuel, better exhaust, head job etc.,etc.) Good luck in your endevors and keep us posted if you do run into some HOT parts for the XS XJ modles.

            every body has

I personaly didn't have a good word for merriam. I talked to someone on phone long time ago, treated me like $hit,so i choose not to deal with them. They do have many if not all the parts you would need ,but be forwarned they can be XSpensive on there stuff.Check out other posts and links on this site, many parts plases to choose from.

              Welcome to the forum Chad.
There are a lot of use who have done things to upgrade our bikes. Your '78 is a great opportunity. It's my understanding that they tuned them down in '79 and again in '80. But let me tell you where I'm at. I'm just about done with a 4 year project '80 special. Along with chrome, paint and other cosmetics, I've thrown in a big bore kit this last spring, to go with the Mac 4-1 and jet kit. It doesn't have the smooth power and control of my friends 2003 zx-12 Ninja, but it feels about as fast. The transmission won't put up with too much more, as 2nd gear is a little weak. But as long as your not drag racing all the time, you should be alright. Stock specs put your bike at around 12 or 13 secs. in 1/4 mile. Someone here has about the same mods as me, and is into the low 12's I think.......Oh, and Merriam Cycles Street Sleeper was my inspiration, as I'm sure you can tell.

I have big bore kit and turbo on mine and havn't had a problem with my trans after rebuilding it 8-10 years ago or so and drag race it almost every week. there is a lot of tricks but every bike is differnt. stay with stock rods I have put every rod they make almost in my motors and the only ones I can't break is the stock ones. There is a clutch trick I have when you start building some serious horse power, so if you have any questions this place is helpful.

Wow! You must know what your doing, I'll give you that. The last person I heard of who actually used a turbo burned up clutches within a few full throttle runs, and after fixing that, lost the tranny and gave up. My 2nd gear first skipped last year during a poor mans 1/4 mile. I will eventually have to fix it, but I'm afraid that the appeal of the newer sportbikes has convinced me that my special will settle back into the sport touring class. I must keep in mind that I built it just to make sure that no Harley would out-run my 24 year old Jap bike.....(I have seen a few that could rival me).
