    brakes were working good but after 5000 miles turned squishy again. only now pumping does not help. have not had time to investigate.

      I would start by checking the fluid level in the master cylinder. Then do the dreaded brake bleed. (hope you buy your brake fluid by the gallon) Also consider springing a few bucks for braided stainless. Makes a phenomenal difference in creating a "positive" feel in the brake lever. Stops a lot better to.
      After that plan, on doing a brake rotor drilling over the winter to reduce brake pad aquaplaning on wet roads. When the rotors/pads are wet the initial application can give your stomach more than a little twinge. The lever is hard but there is no stop until you have covered a fair distance as the water gets scrubbed off by the pads.
