  • Spark plug boots

I ohmed out my ignition coils with and without the boots on them. I got approx 15k ohms with the boots off. The manual I have doesn't tell me whether or not I'm supposed to take them off to measure the resistance wire to wire. They have no breaks in them and are very flexible still. Should I replace the caps with resistor or non resistor caps?

If you switch to Non-resistor caps you should change your spark plugs to 5k resistor types. The Denso IW20 plugs have 5k internal resistance. The reason for this is because Yamaha says the interference will affect the TCI.

    * The coils with boots removed is the way it should be tested.
    * Measurement between the primary wires - 1.5 ohm
    * Measurement between the spark wires - 15k ohm
    * Resistance in boots alone - 5k ohm
