Don't Buy These Brake Pads

I would advise everyone to not buy these generic brake pads from this dealer on ebay.

I ordered a set for my '79 XS1100 std and they failed to fit properly out of the package. After a lot of fitting with a good Basturd file, I finally got them to fit freely without dragging. Once they got seated to the rotor, they began to squeek like hell. They do stop the bike well, but I hate all the stares at the intersections when I apply the brakes. I pulled them off and found that nothing was rubbing the rotors except for the brake pads. It must be the high metal and copper content used in the pad composition. I thought that I would save money with these, NOT! I just ordered a quality set from Dennis Kirk.

Squealing doesn't mean they're bad. Sometimes even top quality pads squeal.

Go to a local auto parts store and get a tube of Bendix anti-squeal compound. Don't read the instructions because they tell you to squeeze some on and then reassemble. Put a layer of the goo on the back of the pads then set them in the sun (face down) until the goo is completely dry (2-3 hours on a sunny day.) When the compound is dry, then reassemble them. Odds are the squeal will be history. I have some other tricks if this doesn't entirely kill the squeal.

May years ago my brother and I both had Suzuki 750 triples. I put new Vesera race quality pads in both of them one day and his were silent and my squealed like a stuck pig. I did everything I could think of but the squeal persisted. Then one day they were fully broken in and my breaking became silent. About that time I got a call from my brother, it seems his brakes started to squeal. ;o)

Thanks Tony. I will give that a try. I once had an '81 Honda 750 with rear shoes that acted similarly until I replaced the shues with a non-metalic composition set. I wasn't aware that there was a way to end the squeeling without replacement.

Those pads are for Specials, not Standards.

I bought the std versions from him. he sells all models but they are junk.

Ok, will avoid the guy - I only did a very quick search through his feedback and only saw special pads.

i use rtv blue or gold on my pads,car also. never had a sqweel,same rules aply put on let fully dry install.

I bought set of the standards... yes they squeal but i also needed the other parts with it.. they work good... but i can deal with the squeal...
