  • Turn Signals

My first post here shortly after becoming the caretaker of a xj1100.
What a blast to ride after being motorcyleless for 15 years. I'm glad to be back in the saddle.

The self-cancelling feature on mine works intermittently and after reading the posts I'm still confused. What controls it, the switch or the flasher unit???
It seems to make a difference how much I lean on a turn whether it cancels or not?? The lights always work but not always cancel.

Also looking for horns AND the bracket to hold them. Nothing on e-bay for some time. Anyone out there have a set they would like to part with??

The self-cancelling feature incorporates some sort of a feed from the speedometer to know when to turn itself off. I generally find it will cancel in approx 12 clicks if I come up to and make a turn without stopping. If you stop at a light, it will click until you get under way and get that magic distance in. I generally try to gauge it so I signal early enough that it cancels just after I have finished the turn. If I signal too late, I can still turn it off manually, or wait for SWMBO riding behind me to come through on the Chatterbox to tell me I've left my signal on...

The flasher cancelling unit controls when it quits. I had the same problem with my Special. Worked fine after cleaning up the leads as they had become corroded. The flasher relay (that small cylinder looking thing below your fuse panel) controls blinking.
