  • MAC 4 - into - 2 pipes PHOTOS and etc... etc..

    OK, guys.

I'm going to try to cover a few bases on this post. It's been a busy week.

First, I promised photos of the MAC 4-into-2 exhaust system.

Here it is. As you can see, there is PLENTY of oil filter clearance. It also clears the rear axle so it can be removed without the 'slinky' from the stock tool kit. Last, I think it loos awesome. The sound is a bit throatier than stock, but no where near the loud HOG sound. MAC part # 4090821.

Second, I promised photos of my OEM RAT pipe set. There are two holes in the muffler ends at the bottom, not very visible when on the bike, other than that they worked fine. The PO filled the holes with all sorts of silicone / sheet metal? If anyone wants, them , make me an offer and I'll get the shipping cost estimate to you. BTW, I have all of the OEM 'special nuts' for the head studs, they go with the pipes.

Lastly, here's a new item. I found this voltage tester at Strauss Auto Stores. They're popular here in the Northeast, but I don't know about everwhere else. Anyway, the great thing about this as you can see, is, it gives you exact voltage readings with LED lights. Best little all-around tester I've ever used. Blip the throttle and see the charging circuit work (or not).

Here's the link to all the photos:

    Cheers,

                  HA HA HA

Good one, Marty. that's the common area in the back of my home. We have a row of garages there and a common lane for all owners. LOL!

Thanks for the compliments, though. Coming east to the Poconos anytime soon?

How are those brake lines working out?

                    Randy,
THIS was the *proof* I needed to see...
                    were your pipes part # 14907 ??
What a HUGE difference! What do they sound like?
I'm looking for something a little bit louder than 'stock', but not as obnoxous as 4-into-ones
...and what did you pay for them? what was shipping like?
...sorry for all the questions but after SEEING how great these pipes look I "got the jones" for my own set...

Randy, My bikes pipes crisscross and are 4 into 2. Do all Macs do this. I want a new set but I think that the crisscrossed pipes are kinda cool looking. I just got finished painting and pinstripping the Meir fairing I put on. In the daylight I get a pic and post it for you to see.

                          Ron,

14907 is the MAW (motorcycle accessory warehouse) part number for this MAC system. The shipping took a while, two weeks I think but that was because I ordered them late in the week and had them shipped to a different address than the billing address. Apparently it's an MAW policy when you use two different addreses, they do a manual check by telephoning you to verify the order.

As for the crossovers, I haven't seen any photo of those, so I wouldn't know. All my research norrowed my choice down to two - the MAC 4-into-two taper tips, which I settled on and the MAC 4-ito-2 turnouts which I thought were too 'Harley" looking.

Cost from MAW was $275.95 + $30 shipping. They're in Illinois and I'm in NYC, so that is probably the max on shipping cost in continental US, unless you want it faster than ground service.

BTW, they don't come with sealing washers or any instructions, so if you've got issues, before you go hammering anything, here's some advice.

Don't know about the special, but for the standard you'll need to alter the center stand arm if you want to keep the centerstand. Needs to be bent outward about an inch for the footpad to clear the muffler.

You have to remove the original exhaust hanger brackets, but keep the large hanger bolts and acorn nuts. The original hanger bolt goes through the MAC hanger. Also, the set comes with a small bracket that is the center stand stop. It connects to either side and uses the hanger bolt with a second nut. Simple and effective, although it does not come with a rubber stop so the stand clanks against the stop. I think I'll add a rubber stop. Lastly, you can adjust the final position of the mufflers forward and aft so they clear the rear axle, a matter of personal taste but a convenience if the time comes!

I also replaced all of the head nuts with S/S acorns from Bolt Depot. Looks really nice. Used the original studs.

                          Randy

                            Randy,

That's a great idea replacing the cap nuts with new ones. I checked out the Bolt Depot website and for a few bucks all the shiny nuts on the bike could be replaced. Thanks for the tip.
