Eliminating blinker cut-off

Looked back thru the post but couldnt find anything on this. I want to use custom made LED blinkers but the flasher wont flash. Anyone done this? How do you get it to work?

i just went to very tiny blinkers on the back of myXJ. all i did was replace the flasher with an electronic version, TWO PRONG, the self cancel won't work anymore,but the blinkers work like a champ.

You can get an electronic flasher at www.libertek.com. I installed on on my bike and it works like a charm with all forms of lights.

Unfortunately, when you go to an electronic flasher, you will lose the self-cancelling feature..

I've used similar with no problem. I have a newer flasher as everything has been upgraded and replaced on my 83 XS11 (whole bike originally wiped out in a fire) but I still cannot get LEDs to flash. They are 12v singles. They draw so little power as to be unnoticed by every flasher I've tried.

Kane, it must be an ELECTRONIC FLASHER,even a brand new flasher will not work,i know i tried twice. As for why i don't know.Something about the low voltage draw from leds or something like that.Also i tried a new three prong electronic flasher it also did not work,i had to use a two prong electronic flasher. AS stated above,you will lose the self cancel feature but that does not bother me.

Hey there Kane,

In the tech tips/Mods you'll find an article about LED turn signal conversions, and as has been stated, a 2 prong ELECTRONIC flasher is required. CHevy was right, the LED's draw so little current that the flasher can't build up the resistance and heat needed to activate it. The electronic ones work with simple switches, so no heavy current load is needed. You'll need to replace the Emergency flasher as well if you have one with an electronic one also. Got mine at local auto parts store, about $8.00 each! HTH.

- - - don't seem to care how little current they pass, they keep pulsing at the same rate regardless. The $87 stock flasher on one of my XS650s died so I gave up on the self-cancel feature and installed an $8 electronic flasher instead. That's when I found out they don't care how large a current they pass neither. Mr. Stupid hooked up the dark brown wire to ground instead of the black one to give a dead short when the right-hand flashers were switched on. The electronic flasher clicked three times at it's same steady pace before the main fuse blew. I did it twice more to make sure!
