Can anyone help? I just washed the monster and now it starts but will not keep running when I put it in gear. Just dies. Any help would be appreciated.

OK, dunno bout your model, BUT....
There is a few things that make that happen....
That should happen when you got your side stand down, clutch not pulled in,....
and it shouldn't if there is a bad connection somewhere or something is short-circuited.
So... check all the switches if they work properly. The sidestand and clutch ones... maybe there is another one I can't think of right now.

I found an old thread after I posted this
It just so happens that if you get moisture on the spark plug wires the 79 xs-11sf will run in nuetral, but when you go into gear the spark will follow the least path of resistance. 
So I let 'er sit out in the sun fer awhile and "voile!!" she runs just fine. I guess it's time ta buy some new spark plug boots to install.
