  • Wont crank

I have been having trouble with the switch that releases when the leaning stand is put in the run position. It kills the engine when I try and put it in gear, I guess this is normal as I have only had the bike a month. I greased the switch and now am having trouble getting it to turn over. The battery is hot and dims the light when I push the start button. It does not even try and roll the engine. The kill switch is in the right position and it will not go through its normal checkout on brakes light and such. Any ideas on where to look now? By the way it is a 1982 XJ1100J model.

    kills in gear

i had a prob with that a long time ago.I'm not sure what i did though. I have a wire grounded to the air nipple on the fork.It might have been the clutch in switch or something like that.Ken or Jerry are pretty knowledable on theese bikes ,They will put me in my place hopefully, sorry i couldn't be more helpful.

      Bad ground connection or something.
Use a car battery jump cables or something and connect the engine to the frame.
Or the battery is kaka. Spray all contacts with WD40 and tighten bolts and stuff, recheck everything, ....

          Wont Crank

Found the problem. The Sidestand switch had been sticking frequently. I tried oiling it up and apparently it shorted it out inside. I disconnected it from its holder, pulled the plunger as far as possible with pliers and have it tucked inside the motor area till I can get another. This allowed it to start and move. Still haven't a clue as to why it would not crank though. I know it will start with the sidestand in the down position but will not go in gear. I did disconnect two wires that ran by the fuse box and it cranked. But when I tried to ride it, it ran very rough. I reconnected the wires and voila! It cranked and ran fine .

          Thanks for the suggestions.
