    Yamaha valve tool FYI

I bought the Yamaha valve tool listed in my clymer's manual - I think it was $12 or $13.

anyway - worked like a charm on my 79 special.

I'll have to see where my local dealer comes in on price. I see dennis kirk also has them for around $15 I think.

not sure about dennis kirk - if it is an actual yamaha part or not.

only reason i posted this, was that i have read numerous times on here about people having troubles with aftermarket valve tools.

              yeah i have left:

              3x280
              1x290

              and ordered:

              3x275
              1x285

yamaha dealer wanted $10.98 A PIECE!

got them from crc for $4.95

got a throttle cable for $10.95 which was also half the price of yameeha. hope they are good stuff. though i can't see how a shim can vary much in quality.

Beechfront, Or anyone out there who knows? How does the Yamaha version differ from the Motion Pro tool? I'm curious because I owned the Motion Pro for 10 years and couldn't get it to work on either my 81SH or my current 79F. Finally dumped it on E-bay. Now I pull cams to do shims.

I was looking at some parts on BikeBandit and noticed a valve shim tool kit for the XS. It was $13.59.

Randy, it is a motion pro tool kit. So I don't know if it is right for alll bikes.

                      valve tool

i paid 13+ tax at dealer for motion pro tool. I have to agree with the modified version though, grind a hair off the bottom if your tool doesn't work, should be fine then.were did you get that throttle cable? i got that one from ebay so far so good, looks just like original only had it on for a few months not sure on long term yet.

                        throttle cable

                        got the cable/shims from partsnmore

on the throttle cable, the end that attaches to the carbs is too large. had to sand it down quite a bit. still is too snug.
