I have just over 15,000 on my rear. It's got a few more miles left in it but not much. Front tire looks like it will last twice as long as the rear.Jim Middlestadt

I got 11,000 miles from my last 491 rear and it looks like it will be about the same for my current one, front looks good for 20,000. I could probably get a little more out of the rear tires but i'm a bit conservative on when to replace tires.

The problem with tires isn't the wear but the rubber getting hard. I'd replace them every 2 to 3 years regardless of wear. I read it in Bob Jones book, XS ELEVEN HEAVEN"We are often so caught up in our destination that we forget to appreciate the journey." "

As a general rule that I use,( whether they need it or not ) I change my tires two to one. Two back to one front. Back every 10,000 miles, front every 20,000 or both every 4 years. I talked to many "tire " EXperts and have been convinced that the maximum EXpected life of a tire is 4 years. After that they connot warrent that the rubber will hold up cauz of detieration in the compounds that make up the rubber. As far as the brand of tire, With technology and compitition in todays market, I run CHEN-CHIN JCW specials for $42.00 rear $38.00 front. H rated. Just got to remember not to take er over 120mph. Had then one year now and they are barely worn. Put about 2500 miles on them so far. Air pessure and wheel balance is the key. Forget what the sticker says, Different tires, loads, riding temps ect should determin what your pressures should be, but never over the max stamped on the tireS.R.Czekus

My tire mileage always varied quite a bit but on average my tires are usually in need of replacing at 6000 miles.I try to replace them as a set if I can.Rideing in the mountains will eat tires up quicker but you need the gripe and traction.Good luck on your tires.Bill Harvell

i'm just at a bad point right now with my tires. there is still some decent tread left, but i am leaving on a LONG trip and am thinking they will probably need replaced before i get home.
i bought them 1 year ago and have put on around 7-8000 miles.
tread remaining is:
front - .11"
rear - .13"
any thoughts?
