  • Drive shaft boot repair

I just discovered a good way to repair a ripped/torn boot. I ripped mine in two when puling the engine last week, but I was able to fix it using 3M Super Weathestrip Adhesive (Yellow Death, Gorilla Snot), and Plasti Dip. I glued the boot back together using the gorilla snot, by applying it to the edges of the tear, and putting the pieces together. After that had set for a while, I 'painted' the torn area area inside the boot with the gorilla snot and allowed it to dry for a few hours. I also painted the outside of the boot, but that may not have been necessary. I purchased a can of Plasti Dip at a NAPA parts store for $8 and change. Using a small brush I painted over the gorilla snot on the outside of the boot, and allowed it to dry. It dried a little glossier than the rubber itself, but is flexible and tough. I tried to pull it apart, gently, and it held tight. You have to look closely to see the repair, but I saved over $20 on the cost of a new one from Bikebandit.
