  • My Achey Shakey Brake Pads

    Concerning an 79 XS1100SF

I have had a recurring problem with shakey brakepads on the front of the bike.

When I apply the front brakes they work and of course stop rattling. And they release just fine.

But why do the calipers release to the point that they let the pads jiggle all over the place.

I have bled the system and the problem still maintains.

Has anyone had this kind of problem or has any thoughts on causes and fixes for it.

The front brakes have been like this since I bought the bike a couple months ago.
I am a rhinoceros and my skin is three feet thick.

It sounds like you may be missing one or both of the brake pad shims and/or "H" shaped spring that fits between the caliper body and the top of the pads.
