hi everyone i was wondering what engine parts were interchangable on the 82 Maxim 1100cc Engine, i am interested in getting an oil cooler a CDI box and the coils, probably the Reg/Rec as well..... thanks in advance!

oil cooler
oil cooler will go on all our bikes,XS-XJ as long as its the type that puts a plate between the oil filter housing, not sure on the other mentioned parts.1982 XJ 1100

Its a TCI box, not a CDI box, BTW...
The XJ box has a different timing curve, all-electronic, built into the box, no mechanical advance. You are best off sticking with the 10M (stock) box, unless you want to fit the earlier XS mechanical advance and ignition box, which can be done.
The XJ used different coils (different resistance and specs) so again you are best off sticking with stock if possible. However, you can fit the earlier coils and add a resistor to make them work on the XJ.
Regulator/rectifier rated at more amperage on the XJ, as the brush-type alternator puts out more amperage than the brushless XS. Parts are directly interchangeable, but again, would recommend the XJ version on the XJ engine for reliability.
You didn't mention carbs, but the XJ carbs are a bit different than the XS. Inlet bell is 54mm vs the XS 52mm, jetting is leaner, and choke is cable operated. Again, choke can be converted, carbs re-jetted, you can get the correct individual filters ans so on, but requires more attention to the details.
You might be better off swapping the XJ engine for an XS version for better parts availability.
As mentioned, the oil cooler is not model specific. Assembly consists of an adapter plate with bolt extender, hoses, and radiator. On the '81H the cooler was stock, and there are a couple extra tabs welded to the downtubes. These tabs were used to hold the hoses in place so they would not contact the head pipes. If you put on a cooler, replace the original rubber lines with new ss ones. The oil filter will hang about 1/2 - 3/4 inches lower than stock with the oil cooler plate installed. Set up uses stock oil filter hardware.Jerry Fields
