  • Lowering block

I have found some generic lowering blocks and have seen others use them before but never on a shaft drive bike. Anyone know of any issues with lowering blocks on this bike

Not sure what lowering blocks are but if you are trying to lower your bike check out the Tips section.

      lowering blocks

lowering blocks relocate the rear shocks to affectivly lower the rear of your bike. And i've been waiting three years for someone to finnaly ask that question.I dont see why not.As soon as you find out let us know.As i sure don't want to spend $300 for new shocks ,i like the ones i have.

Rob Reil of www.motorcyclecarbs.com was talking about making lowering block for either the XS1100's or the triples, can't remember which list is was. He seems to have dropped off both lists. If your bike is lowered too far you'd need a shorter sidestand (right Mike T.?}.

You still might have to change your shocks. By moving the lower mount further rearward, you also change the amount of leverage that the swingarm exerts. Depending on your tastes, you may not like the ride quality until you change the springs to match the new location.

            lowering XJ

its a little different on the xj to relocate the upper mount ,as it is in between the grab rail and frame

I thought about the lowering the back of my bike.I have a set of lowering blocks that came off a KZ650 so I matched them up to get a idea. The biggest problem I saw was on the rearend housing, just will not work unless made some. The blocks would lower the back of the bike I guess 2-3 inches but the problem is still the rearend housing.

You don't want to lower the bike that far. It will change your shaft angles and give too little clearance. I wouldn't go past 1.5 or 11 in. eye to eye.

The lowering blocks off the KZ650 are around 2'' long.I don`t have any intention of useing them on a XS.I just crank my shocks down some on spring adjustment and live with that because the rear settles a little when you do that.Later I might see about finding some lower profile tires might help a little.Don`t want to upset anything on the bike might open a big can of worms .

I replaced my rear shocks with ones bought from JC Whitney awhile ago and it lowered my bike aprox. 3/4 in. This did not affect the performance or add any rattles, pops, or pings.Still a good comfy ride. Also no need to get a shorter kick stand.

I might check more into the above mentioned blocks later on.I might have overstated how much they will lower the bike, after alot of thought{thinking through the ages }on the KZ the blocks lowered the back end at most a inch.I get carryed away sometimes.Sorry

                          lowering blocks

i am not sure about the xs but the lowering blocks are not repeat not the best choice for lowering an XJ I put on a set that moved the rear shock back about 1 and 3/4 inches which lowered the bike about 1 inch the problem is the angle that the drive shaft will sit at will cause extra stress on the drive shaft, we had to replace the shaft within 2000 miles, after the second set of gears at the rear wheel assy I removed the blocks and have not had any problems. I put on 11.5 in shocks which lowered the seat height but did not place as great an angle on the drive shaft. I am in the processof shaving down the sea pad and going to a gel insert to lower the seat about another inch.

I would say that what works for the XJ would work for the XS,within reason.Shorter shocks, thining the seat and lower profile tires would be a whole lot safer than useing lowering blocks. They would work on a twin shock chain driven bike but not on a shaft driven one.I`am going to use them for something else just have not thought about it much as of yet.
