  • 81 xs1100 exhaust headers

Looking to buy a new 4 into 1 exhaust header for my 81 xs1100. Any good deals out there?

You can buy a new 4 into 1 from Mac. Several retailers have them. Otherwise, you'll have to find one on eBay, swap meet etc.

        Exhaust

Your 1981 XS1100 uses the Special exhaust. Try to find those. Some of the aftermarket 4 into 1 exhaust are more trouble than they are worth - have to lose center stand, can't get to oil filter.

I believe mac still offers their chrome exhaust new but it's expensive.

Mac exhaust seems to be made or unobtanium. I have emailed them asking to buy straight from them

I think the best thing you can do for performance is to retain the stock down tubes and collector pipes. Cut the collector down-stream of the cross over. Leave enough for clamps. Fasten either Jardine muffs or Harley muffs.

I have to say that 4 into 1s are overrated. I had a set of older (Chrome) Jardines on a 78E that had oodles of torque at lower and mid range rpms under throttle that would crap out at 95 to 100 mph. I had another newer set on a different 78E that suffered somewhat at lower rpms and also at 95 to 100. Jardine may have changed the baffles. Keep the oem down tubes if you can. They are double walled and look better.

I am inclined to agree especially when the aftermarket ones IF you can find them are 500 dollars. That's more than I paid for the entire bike.
