Sidestand Kill Switch

I love the sidestand switch on my xj that kills the engine when you let out the clutch with the bike in gear with the sidestand down. The engine will run with the sidestand down if the bike is in neutral or in gear with the clutch pulled in.

Is there any way I could install a switch on my XS that would do the same thing? I took off the other day with my sidestand down and scraped it on the cement. I didn't wreck, but I was sure surprised when I turned left!

What might be easier than trying to wire up 3 different switches to work together on the XS, the neutral/clutch/ sidestand, might be to just put a warning light and switch on the sidestand that displays on your dash, so when the bike's running, the light will flash or be on as long as the sidestand is down, and go out when you swing it up!? And it might not have to be an actual contact/depression switch, maybe just a positional mercury switch like inside the trunk lid of a car for the trunk light!? Just a different idea!?

How about making it a habbit to sweep your foot back across the sidestand area before taking off? I hadn't been on a bike in a dozen years when I got my first XS11 almost 2 years ago and that habbit came back without thinking about it.

I love the idea of a flashing light...I've just gotten so used to having that safety on my XJ that I've gotten into a bad habbit of not checking.

As we all know, bad habits are hard to break!
