  • battery seems to loose life

    hi thear im still haveing trouble with my xs1100 midnight special
    did seem to be running too lean i.e. rich"
    sorted that but now stops for no reason when it wants" as if electrical" because its as if i have turned of emergency stop" its instant"
    and then when pushing starter it really strugles"" as if battery dead"" i have charged battery and will put back on in a mo"
    but this happend 3 days ago and battery was as flat as a pancake"
    i have now dissconected fuse for lights because the last time it happend was at night traveled 200 miles and lights faded and stoped with flat battery
    i have only had bike for 1 week and dont no any history of bike""

    Could be a charging issue (are you making 13-14 volts at 3000 RPMs or higher across the battery? Battery connections? Also could be loose or corroded fuse box clips or damaged fuses. Bad or corroded connectors in any number of places. Loose grounds? Battery could just be a piece of junk...you have no history right? Have it tested or just get a new one and start there. When it is fully charged check for 13.2 to 14.5 volts across battrery at 3000-4000 RPM, then report back and we can try and figure this out.

        weak battery on start

        I've been having similar problems, slow crank, hard start. If I jump start it, it fire first try.

        After much searching I discovered a wire inside the tail light assembly had worn through the insulation creating a current leak. A bit of electrical tape and better routing and problem solved...

          CHEERS WILL TRY TO FIND BECAUSE IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN LIGHTS ON SO TOOK FUSE OUT AND FINE I WILL SART AT BACK X MOVE FORWARD
