LED headlight question!

Back in april, I put in a "biyaco" brand LED headlight from amazon, intended for harleys. It was $75, and I love it. The only *slight* obstacle was tapping the halo wire in, and other than that, two thumbs up. The first week I had it, I kept thinking people were tailing me because it spreads out so far to the sides!

The only issue, and this isn't a big deal AT ALL, is that it flickers at stoplights with the signal on, and dims at stops when I hit the brakes. The headlight warning light comes on as well, until I rev the bike (it only does this when I first start / warm it up). This happened even with my LED bulb / stock reflector. Like I said, NOT a big deal, just wanted to see if it can be remedied, or if it's just par for the course with a 30+ year old bike. Bypass the RLU?? Charging system maybe needs some love?? Both?! Haha.

Yes, pictures. I have bypassed the RLU on all of the XS11’s that I owned because I suspected that they contribute to drawing from the battery. In your case, I wonder if the amp draw for the LED’s is so low that the RLU “thinks” a filament is burned out. I think the RLU is supposed to switch to running both high and low beam if it senses that one or the other is out. If the warning indicator is on, it may be sending current to both high and low beams. With the warning light on, are your beams switchable???

I also put a "Day Maker" LED light on my XS this year. I get a "very slight" flicker as well as a slight glow on my Headlight Idiot Light, both only at a low idle. I agree with Sid (Skids) that the bike must think that the light is going out because the LED requires so much less electricity.

The difference is amazing during night riding; I see things way sooner and way clearer then with the stock headlight. My riding buddy (on his 71' CB750) says that I light up the road really well for him too, and he usually takes the lead.

I have the halo wired separately to the fuse box (which I also upgraded, but that is a different story) so it goes on with the key, but the Day Maker has another feature which I did not hook-up that would make the Halo change to amber with the turn signals.

My flicker during idle is so slight that I hardly notice it, so I don't plan to try to do anything about it.

With the warning light on, are your beams switchable???

It's just dim after it warms; up completely. It'll stay on until she's warmed up, or even after it is, but until I actually hit the road.

HAHA, yep...same here! I have a bunch of friends that are in a big moped group, and when I'm out riding around aimlessly and see them, they get PSYCHED because my light illuminates the universe. It IS HILARIOUS to be riding in the back-middle with a big group of them...all these little 50cc two-smokes, and an 1100cc giant. It makes me feel like a mutant / chernobyl sheep-herding dog or something. HA! I GOTTA get a picture of that sometime for you guys...you'll laugh your asses off....
