  • Is it possible to find flange adapters / split collars anywhere?!

    I need them for an 80' SG. I've tried for QUITE a few hours (seriously), and all I can find is Honda replacements...and pretty much Honda only, haha. This is for a MAC 4-1, by the way. I'm at the point now where I'm teetering on just trying to MAKE the damn things myself!

    Thanks in advance!

    So what if they are Honda? If they fit (don't know) use them.

      The GL1000 should fit. All the header companies made just two or three different sizes to fit almost all the Japanese bikes. Heck, a 750 set may do the job! biggest thing is pipe diameter, as there is usually slots to make up for the different spacing on the flange bolts.

        Good deal, thanks guys! I've never had to try to outsource these things, so I apologize for the stupid questions! I've got a slight leak, so I'm just going to get brand new ones and be done with it. The thing is running like a BEAST otherwise! Been riding like crazy, when NOT working on the latest score - 1985 zx550 GPz. It only had 7,200mi (for $900), but the PO...WOW. Keep finding botched fixes / rigs by the day, haha. Working on the exhaust on THAT ONE as well. Can't slight him, because it was his first bike project, and was basically his excuse to hide from the wife and kids. Fun little bike, though! Gonna ride that while rebuilding the SG.

          You probably are aware that the old gaskets sometimes can/are mistaken for part of the head as they can be compressed into the exhaust ports and take a bit of elbow grease to remove them.

          Here's a site that may interest you if your into fabrication;

          Sometimes it takes a whole tank of gas before you can think straight.

            You don't need to get new ones, just make your own. All you need is an old set of stock head pipes that are easily available for cheap. Cut the flange adaptors off and grind the weld off in front then pull the old pipes out. Cut them in half and your done. Best of all is you can use the OEM flange. Looks good and will never come loose. I have had the flanges bend and come loose especially on MAC systems.
            I have done this on both my XS and XJ11 and never had any problems.
            Slow down and enjoy life. If you are in that much of a hurry, you should have left eariler.
