Final drive seal?

Nope, shown o-ring IS correct. Clean those splines and final drive spines.....re-lube them with the special Moly for that application, which you can purchase from your local Honda dealer. BTW, internal final drive shaft splines are lubed using that grease zerk atop the final drive shaft tube. Do NOT remove the final drive to lube them. Captian Zap and I have both proven that grease zerk IS correctly located at correct angle for lube to cover those splines...….thirty pumps with conventional type grease gun gives approx. 1oz. of lube. Do this at each oil/filter change or 3,000miles.Last edited by motoman; 09-12-2019, 10:48 PM.81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

Are you talking about the end that bolts to the swing arm where the drive shaft mates up? That gray colored stuff could be Yamabond or Permatex, some sort of sealer to keep grease from seeping out. I've used a thin layer of Yamabond there every time I've had the final drive off my bikes so that may be what you are seeing.Billy

They were a little dry. There was small traces of grease but not really coated. I cleaned and then packed the final drive cup(?) full of molly as well as around the drive shaft spline. There were some nefarious noises as I mated the two together which I think indicated the grease was well spread amongst them.1981 XS1100H
