  • Is there a starter switch mod?

I am having issues with my XJ starter switch. I have taken it apart and cleaned/filed the contacts and it worked great for a few days, but getting poor connection again. There is a delay of a second or two between the time I push the button and the time the starter cranks and I don't seem to be getting full voltage.
Is there a better switch out there that will work?

You can take the one you have and clean it up. You can buy reproduction. You can buy aftermarket. You can also wire up a separate switch. You have several options.

If you jump the wires before the switch, does it do the same thing? If your bike still has those safety interlocks, they could be causing a problem.

I did not have problems on my XJ but did replace the stock fuse block and replaced both battery cables. If you are running stock components in both places you will end up loosing power due to corrosion in the cables, not just on the connectors, and increasingly poor connection between the OEM glass fuses and their holders. I highly recommend replacements if you have not already done so.
